Yellow weather warning for thunderstorms


A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued by the Met Office for Saturday.

  • The warning covers the whole of the Scottish Borders
  • The warning runs from midnight on Friday to 6pm on Saturday
  • Significant rainfall possible in areas affected by thunderstorms
  • 15-30mm of rain likely, with some areas seeing up to 50mm in a few hours
  • Strong gusts of winds and hail also possible
  • Potential for flooding from surface water and small or fast responding watercourses
  • Be prepared for rain and flooding

    Rain is expected to spread into southern Scotland late on Friday evening and through the early hours of Saturday. This will move quickly northwards and will be followed by sporadic thunderstorms. Where these do occur there will be notable changes in the weather over short periods of time.
