Snow and ice weather warning


The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning today (24 January) for the Scottish Borders for snow and ice between midnight Saturday 25 January and 11am on Saturday 25 January which may result in hazardous driving conditions.

 

Key information:

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
  • Probably some icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces

    Snow showers will continue to affect Scotland overnight into Saturday morning. 

    Snow accumulations will mainly be confined to high ground, above roughly 200 metres, where 5-10 cm could develop in places. 

    Ice will be a more significant hazard with icy stretches forming on untreated surfaces as temperatures fall below freezing.
