Red weather warning issued

The Met Office has issued a red weather warning for wind for Friday.

This covers a large part of the Scottish Borders and runs from 10am to 5pm. Peak gusts of 80 to 90mph are expected widely for our area.

There is likely to be significant disruption. Further information will be issued later today in relation to Council services.

Other warnings

An amber warning for wind remains in place from 6am to 9pm on Friday covering the whole of the region. Peak wind gusts across the wide area could still hit 90mph in exposed coasts and hills.

An underlying yellow weather warning for wind still runs from midnight on Thursday/Friday to 11.59pm on Friday due to the risk of some impacts across an extended period.

A further yellow warning for wind is also still in place from midnight Friday/Saturday to 3pm on Saturday, although the wind strengths are expected to have lessened by this time. This now covers just northern parts of the Borders.

A yellow weather warning for snow for Friday morning has been moved and no longer covers our area.
