Wind warnings issued with gusts of up to 90mph possible


The Met Office has issued two yellow weather warnings for wind associated with Storm Éowyn which impact the Scottish Borders later this week.

Warning for Friday:

  • Warning runs from midnight Thursday/Friday to 11.59pm on Friday
  • Warning area covers the whole of the Scottish Borders
  • Inland peak gusts could reach 70mph
  • Along coasts and higher ground gusts could reach 90mph
  • In a few locations gusts of over 90mph could be experienced
  • Risk of power cuts, travel disruption and damage to buildings
  • Be prepared for high winds
  • Warning for Saturday:

  • Warning runs from midnight Friday/Saturday to 3pm on Saturday
  • Warning area covers the whole of the Scottish Borders
  • 50-60mph gusts expected inland, with up to 70mph gusts over exposed coasts and hills
  • Continued risk of disruption and damage
  • Be prepared for high winds

    Whilst there is some uncertainty in the track of Storm Éowyn, a spell of very strong winds is likely, initially southeasterly before turning westerly.
