Ice and snow weather warnings


Freezing temperatures and snowfall are forecast for the Scottish Borders. Two weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office which cover our area. 

In addition, an amber weather warning for snow is in place for northern England which runs close to part of the border.

Updates to the warnings are possible over the weekend.

Ice warning:

  • Yellow weather warning for ice in place from 4pm Friday to 10am Saturday
  • Warning area covers most of the Borders, with the exception of south eastern area eg Coldstream, Chirnside, Eyemouth
  • Ice likely on untreated surfaces
  • Be prepared for the cold, snow and ice

  • Snow warning:

  • Yellow weather warning for snow in place from midnight Saturday/Sunday to 12noon Monday
  • Warning area covers whole of the region
  • Snow accumulations of up to 5cm (2in) possible in some places, with up to 20cm (almost 8in) possible over high ground
  • Be prepared for the cold, snow and ice

  • Amber warning for snow:

  • Amber weather warning for snow in place from 9pm Saturday to 11.59pm on Sunday
  • Warning area is outwith the Scottish Borders, but covers up to Rochester on the A68 and south of Kielder
  • The A697 and A1 are both outwith the amber warning area
  • Up to 7cm (almost 3in) possible widely, with up to 30cm (almost 12in) possible on ground over 150m and even 40cm (almost 16in) over 300m
