Yellow weather warning for wind

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind for Sunday and into Monday.

Key information:

  • Warning covers almost the whole of the Scottish Borders
  • Warning runs from 3am on Sunday to 12noon on Monday
  • Gusts of up to 65mph expected widely
  • Risk of gusts up to 80mph in exposed areas
  • Be prepared for high winds
  • More information:

A map of the warning area and full details can be found on the Met Office website. Updates to the warning are likely.

Initially a period of strong south to southeasterly winds will likely develop through Sunday morning, with gusts of 50-60 mph possible in some inland areas, especially Northern Ireland and western Scotland, and perhaps up to 60-70 mph along exposed coasts and hills. Winds will then likely turn southwesterly, with a period of especially strong winds possible during Sunday afternoon and evening in western Scotland where gusts could potentially reach 70-80 mph in exposed areas, and more generally 55-65 mph in other parts of the warning area. These strong winds in conjunction with high spring tides may cause some disruption.

Updates will be provided as required.
