Tour of Britain - 3 Sept - Melrose roads/parking information


The Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Men professional cycle race will start in the Scottish Borders on Tuesday 3 September. The start and finish will be in Kelso, with the whole 181.9km route within the Scottish Borders, passing through various communities, including your own.

A double Olympic gold medallist from the Paris games and a two-time World Champion have already been confirmed as being among the 108 riders taking part.

A route map is attached for your information and further details, including race timings and a programme of fringe events and activities, can be found on our website. A number of activities will take place within Gibson Park, Melrose, while there will be two sprints in Melrose as part of the race.

This international-scale event will attract visitors and provide a significant economic impact for our area. It will also be broadcast live on ITV4 and attract worldwide TV coverage.

The event will run under a rolling road closure, managed by police motorbikes. To ensure the safety of the riders and spectators a small number of temporary traffic restrictions will be in place.

In Melrose this includes:

Parking being prohibited between 10am and 4pm on Tuesday 3 September on:

  • B6374 High Cross Ave, Melrose – from Waverley Road to High Street
  • B6374 High Street, Melrose – from High Cross Ave to Market Square
  • B6374 Market Square, Melrose – from High Street to Dingleton Road
  • B6359 Dingleton Road, Melrose – from Market Square to Chiefswood Road
  • One way orders will be also be enacted on the following roads on Tuesday 3 September between 6am and 9pm to allow for parking:

  • Annay Road, Melrose – a one way order in an easterly direction will be in force from the junction of St Marys Road to the junction with Dean Road, Newstead
  • Dean Road, Melrose – a one way order in a westerly direction will be in force from the junction with Annay Road to the junction of High Road, Melrose
  • The extent of restrictions has been minimised wherever possible, both in respect of length of road covered and the timeframe of the restrictions. Council and Police resources will be in place to check locations covered by restrictions, with vehicle removal arrangements in place as a last resort.
