Yellow weather warning for thunderstorms


The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms.

Key information:

  • Warning runs from 3pm to 11.59pm today
  • Whole of the Scottish Borders covered by the warning area
  • Up to 30mm of rain possible in some areas
  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions 
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
  • Be prepared for rain and flooding
  • More information:

    Heavy showers and thunderstorms will spread eastwards this afternoon before slowly fading later this evening. Where storms are particularly frequent 20 to 30mm of rain may build up over two or three hours. Frequent lightning, hail and gusty winds will be additional hazards in some places.
